Funding for Oregon Schools for May 2027 AP Exams
Fee-Reduced Students
“Fee-reduced students” qualify for the College Board fee reduction of $37 per exam. Schools are expected to forgo their $9 rebate for fee-reduced students, bringing the exam cost to $53. For eligibility criteria, visit AP Exam Fee Reductions.
The State of Oregon will provide additional funding for fee-reduced students in public schools. For these students, the State of Oregon will provide $53 per exam. This brings the final fee for eligible students down to $0.
Standard-Fee Students
“Standard-fee students” don’t qualify for the College Board fee reduction. For these students, the State of Oregon will pay $12 per exam. This brings the final fee down to $87. This funding applies to May 2027 AP Exams. See Looking Ahead: Planned Changes for May 2028 AP Exams below for a planned future change.
Note: It remains a school-level decision whether to keep or forgo the $9 per exam school rebate from standard-fee students. For more information on rebate policy and procedures, please see State AP Exam Fee Assistance.

Looking Ahead: Planned Changes for May 2028 AP Exams
This does not affect May 2027 AP Exams. The funding described above applies in full for May 2027.
For the 2027-28 school year (May 2028 AP Exams), the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) plans to eliminate the state subsidy for standard-fee students and provide funding only for fee-reduced students, who would continue to pay $0.
ODE encourages districts to plan for this change and to consider reducing exam fees when possible for the 2027-28 school year using other funding sources for which AP Exam fees are an allowable expense, including but not limited to:
- Title IV part A funds
- High School Success funds
- Student Investment Account funds
- Perkins V funds (for courses that are part of a Career and Technical Education program)
Steps for AP Coordinators
Before the Exams
- For your invoice to accurately reflect any fee reductions, the AP coordinator must indicate the fee reduction status for each eligible student in AP Registration and Ordering.
- For each student who is eligible for the College Board fee reduction, check the Reduced Fee box next to their name in the student roster.
- For students who aren't eligible for the fee reduction, no action is needed.
- Fee reduction status is indicated only once per student, not for each exam.
- If possible, indicate each student’s status by the time you submit your exam order. This ensures you have time to plan for and collect the appropriate exam fees.
- However, if you need more time to verify this information, the deadline to indicate students' fee reduction status in AP Registration and Ordering is April 30, 2027 (11:59 p.m. ET).
After the Exams
- Your invoice will be automatically generated and emailed to you after late-testing administration ends. At that point, you can also access and print your invoice through AP Registration and Ordering.
- Send exam fees collected from students directly to College Board.
- June 15, 2027, is the postmark deadline for payment due to College Board.
- AP coordinators don’t need to send a copy of their invoice to the Oregon Department of Education.
