North Dakota AP Exam Fee Assistance
Funding for North Dakota Schools for May 2026 AP Exams
Schools in North Dakota must pay College Board in full for AP Exam invoices. Schools and districts will work directly with the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction (NDDPI) to determine reimbursement amounts. For detailed instructions on this process, please visit the NDDPI website.
NDDPI will use state funds to defray students’ fees for 2026 AP Exams in English, math, science, and computer science.
Fee-Reduced Students
“Fee-reduced students” qualify for the College Board fee reduction of $37 per exam. For eligibility criteria, visit AP Exam Fee Reductions. NDDPI will cover the remaining $53 cost for up to four AP Exams in English, math, science, and computer science. This brings the final fee for eligible exams down to $0.
Four is the maximum number of exams NDDPI will cover throughout a student’s high school career, not the annual cap.
Schools are expected to forgo their $9 rebate for fee-reduced students.
Standard-Fee Students
“Standard-fee students” are those who don’t qualify for College Board fee reductions. NDDPI provides the following funding for standard-fee students taking AP Exams in English, math, science, and computer science:
- NDDPI will cover the full $90 cost for a student’s first qualifying exam during their high school career. This brings the final fee down to $0, or $9 per exam if the school does not forgo their $9 rebate.
- NDDPI will provide $45 per exam for a student’s next 3 qualifying exams during their high school career. This brings the final fee for eligible exams down to $45 or $54 per exam if the school does not forgo the $9 rebate.
- Note: It remains a school-level decision whether to keep or forgo the $9 per exam school rebate from standard-fee students. For more information on rebate policy and procedures, please see State AP Exam Fee Assistance.
AP Seminar and AP Research
NDDPI will cover the full exam fee for both fee-reduced and standard-fee students taking AP Seminar and AP Research Exams.
AP Seminar and AP Research fees don’t count toward a student’s four exam maximum for state subsidized AP Exams.

Steps for AP Coordinators
Before the Exams
- For your invoice to accurately reflect any fee reductions, the AP coordinator must indicate the fee reduction status for each eligible student in AP Registration and Ordering.
- For each student who is eligible for the College Board fee reduction, check the Reduced Fee box next to their name in the student roster.
- For students who aren't eligible for the fee reduction, no action is needed.
- Fee reduction status is indicated only once per student, not for each exam.
- If possible, indicate each student’s status by the time you submit your exam order. This ensures you have time to plan for and collect the appropriate exam fees.
- However, if you need more time to verify this information, the deadline to indicate students' fee reduction status in AP Registration and Ordering is April 30, 2026 (11:59 p.m. ET).
After the Exams
- Your invoice will be automatically generated and emailed to you after late-testing administration ends. At that point, you can also access and print your invoice through AP Registration and Ordering.
- June 15, 2026, is the postmark deadline for payment due to College Board.
