District of Columbia AP Exam Fee Assistance
Funding for District of Columbia Schools for May 2026 AP Exams
For qualifying low-income students, College Board provides a fee reduction of $37 per AP Exam. For eligibility criteria, visit AP Exam Fee Reductions.
For public/charter school students who qualify for the College Board’s fee reduction, the District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) will pay $53 per AP Exam. In combination, this brings the total cost for public/charter school low-income students down to $0. However, schools are expected to forgo their $9 rebate for these students.
Please note there are different processes that public, private, and charter schools need to follow to ensure proper funding. These processes are outlined in the Steps for AP Coordinators section of this page.
Note: It remains a school-level decision whether to keep or forgo the $9 per exam school rebate from standard-fee students. For more information on rebate policy and procedures, please see State AP Exam Fee Assistance.

Steps for AP Coordinators
Before the Exams
- For your invoice to accurately reflect any fee reductions, the AP coordinator must indicate the fee reduction status for each eligible student in AP Registration and Ordering.
- For each student who is eligible for the College Board fee reduction, check the Reduced Fee box next to their name in the student roster.
- For students who aren't eligible for the fee reduction, no action is needed.
- Fee reduction status is indicated only once per student, not for each exam.
- If possible, indicate each student’s status by the time you submit your exam order. This ensures you have time to plan for and collect the appropriate exam fees.
- However, if you need more time to verify this information, the deadline to indicate students' fee reduction status in AP Registration and Ordering is April 30, 2026 (11:59 p.m. ET).
After the Exams
Public Schools
- College Board will bill as follows:
- For each fee-reduced student, College Board will bill OSSE directly for $53 per AP Exam.
- For each standard-fee student, College Board will bill the DC Public Schools district office for all exams and additional fees incurred, such as unused/canceled exam fees, late order fees, late-testing fees, etc.
- Schools shouldn’t send any payments directly to College Board. All fees will be paid by the district office. As the district will be billed directly, schools are no longer provided with a school-specific invoice.
Charter and Private Schools
- Your school’s invoice will be automatically generated and emailed to you after the late-testing administration ends. At that point, you can also access and print your invoice through AP Registration and Ordering.
- For charter schools only:
- For each fee-reduced student, College Board will bill OSSE directly for $53 per AP Exam.
- For each standard-fee student, charter schools should send payment to College Board for all exams and additional fees incurred. Payment should be remitted by the postmark deadline of June 15, 2026.
- For private schools only:
- Private schools in the District of Columbia should submit payment to College Board for all AP Exam fees by the postmark deadline of June 15, 2026.
