A fourth testing window—Administration 4—is available in June only for students who need to take a makeup digital exam for either of these reasons:

  • They were registered for an exam during Administration 3 and need to take a makeup exam because: something impacted their ability to successfully test during Administration 3 or they need to take two exams that are scheduled for the same date and time in Administration 3.
  • They tested during an earlier administration and needed a makeup exam, but they were unable to take a makeup exam on the scheduled exam dates during Administration 2 or 3 due to a conflict.

Update June 16 If a student has a testing issue during Administration 4, they might be able to test during a final makeup testing window in August. See details.

All exam subjects for Administration 4 will be digital exams.

Exams are not available during Administration 4 for AP Chinese Language and Culture, AP French Language and Culture, AP German Language and Culture, AP Italian Language and Culture, AP Japanese Language and Culture, AP Latin, AP Music Theory, AP Spanish Language and Culture, and AP Spanish Literature and Culture.

Makeup exams for Administration 4 can be requested either by:

  • The student: After Administration 3 begins, a student who is registered for an Administration 3 digital exam can submit a request for a makeup exam through My AP. They should submit a request for a makeup exam as soon as they know they need one. Requests must be submitted no later than 7 calendar days before the makeup digital exam they want to take in Administration 4. If a student submits a request and no further action is taken, the student’s request will automatically be approved and processed after the deadline of 7 calendar days before the scheduled Administration 4 digital exam date. Once a makeup digital exam request is processed, the previous exam won’t be scored.
  • The AP coordinator: After Administration 3 begins, an AP coordinator can assign a student to an Administration 4 exam date if necessary. This must be done no later than 11:59 p.m. ET 7 calendar days before the scheduled Administration 4 exam date. Update: The AP coordinator doesn’t need to call AP Services for Educators before moving a student to Administration 4.
    • The coordinator needs to submit changes to their order in AP Registration and Ordering if they move a student to an Administration 4 exam date.
    • Makeup exam dates will appear in the Digital Exam Readiness Dashboard in AP Registration and Ordering and on a student’s homepage in the digital testing app after these requests are processed, by no later than 6 calendar days before the digital exam date.
    • Note: If a student who was registered for Administration 1 or 2 needs to take a makeup digital exam during Administration 4, the AP coordinator must assign the student to the Administration 4 date. Students can only submit a request through My AP for an Administration 4 makeup digital exam if they were already registered for Administration 3.
