AP Art and Design

New for 2022-23

There are two exciting updates about AP Art and Design portfolio submission for the 2022-23 school year:

  1. All Portfolios Will Be Submitted Digitally Only
Starting this year, all portfolios (2-D, 3-D, and Drawing) will be submitted digitally only. AP 2-D and AP Drawing students will no longer mail their physical work to the AP Program.
  2. New Portfolio Submission System
Students’ portfolios will be submitted via the AP Digital Portfolio, the same system used for AP Capstone and AP Computer Science Principles. The role of the AP Art and Design teachers and AP coordinator in the submission process has been simplified.

AP Art and Design Exam Orders

AP coordinators order AP Art and Design Exams along with all other AP Exams in  AP Registration and Ordering. For more information about ordering AP Exams, go to  Ordering and Fees.

New! AP Digital Portfolio Submission

Starting this year, all portfolios (2-D, 3-D, and Drawing) are submitted through the AP Digital Portfolio. AP 2-D and AP Drawing students no longer mail their physical work to the AP Program.

The AP Digital Portfolio opens in  November for Art and Design digital submission. Students can begin uploading work as soon as the AP Digital Portfolio opens.

The AP Digital Portfolio is a separate system, but it’s directly linked to My AP. When students enroll in an AP Art and Design class section or exam only section in My AP, their enrollment carries over to the AP Digital Portfolio.

Art and Design students will use the AP Digital Portfolio to submit their three portfolio components as final to the AP Program for scoring. Additionally, AP Art and Design teachers (and AP coordinators for exam only students) will use the AP Digital Portfolio to review student work, check for plagiarism, and ensure all students’ portfolio components are submitted as final by the May 5, 8 p.m. ET deadline.

AP coordinators, teachers, and students log in to the AP Digital Portfolio using their same College Board login information that they use to log in to myap.collegeboard.org. There’s no longer a need to create a separate AP Art and Design account or for AP coordinators to share access information with teachers and students.

Starting this year, students are responsible for submitting their portfolio components as final in the AP Digital Portfolio by the May 5, 8 p.m. ET AP Program deadline. Teachers no longer forward portfolios to the AP coordinator, and AP coordinators are no longer responsible for submitting portfolios to the AP Program.

Teachers are still encouraged to set an earlier submission deadline, so they can review students’ portfolio components and check for plagiarism. AP coordinators are still responsible for supporting students who are enrolled in an AP Art and Design exam only section.

The following guides provide complete details and instructions about accessing and using the AP Digital Portfolio for AP Art and Design. The guides outline the roles, responsibilities, and steps that need to be taken by AP coordinators, teachers, and students.
