Why was AP Computer Science Principles redesigned?

AP courses are updated periodically to reflect developments in the discipline and in the classroom. AP Computer Science Principles has been reimagined as the course for teaching students how to work with AI responsibly, safely, and confidently. AI is integral to the world of computer science, and College Board research with AP teachers informed the redesign. More than 80% of AP Computer Science Principles teachers surveyed said they were very or somewhat interested in generative AI-focused course content, and 90% of AP teachers surveyed agreed that schools have a responsibility to teach students how to use generative AI effectively and responsibly.
