Accessing AP Higher Education Score Reports
About AP Higher Education Score Reports
There are two ways that colleges, universities, and scholarship institutions may access and download AP score reports sent to them by students. The AP Higher Education Score Reports portal allows users to search for, view, and download AP score reports.
Accessing and using the portal doesn't require technical expertise, and it delivers AP score reports faster without requiring decryption of datafiles. Institutions can download AP score reports in bulk as non-encrypted TXT or CSV formatted files, as well as print-friendly PDFs.
Institutions can also choose to set up access to the RESTful web service to automate the generation and download of data files. Data files are available in non-encrypted TXT and CSV formats via this method. File formats are the same as for the portal.
These two methods for retrieving AP score reports replace paper delivery and encrypted file delivery of score reports. If your institution previously received encrypted electronic score reports via internet delivery, the TXT file has the same layout you’re used to.
Setting Up Portal and Web Service Access
Add [email protected] to your email contacts to ensure you receive updates. Work with your IT staff to allow the e.collegeboard.org domain through your firewall.
Step 1: Create Your College Board Educator Account.
- Create a College Board account.
- Select Educator.
- Use your school-issued email address.
- Complete all required fields, including:
- Organization
- Primary job function
Important: If you plan to implement the web service, do not enable multifactor authentication (MFA) as this will cause your scripts to fail.
For account management help, visit College Board Professional Account Help.
Step 2: Add Access to AP Higher Education Score Reports to Your Account.
Before you begin, you’ll need your institution’s access code:
- If you’re the primary point of contact for your institution, you’ll have received an access code via email. This access code can be distributed to other staff at your organization who need access to AP score reports.
- If you’re not the primary point of contact for your institution, reach out to that individual to obtain the access code. This may typically be someone within the registrar or admissions office of your institution.
- If your institution does not have an access code, contact [email protected].
Add Access
- Sign in to your College Board account.
- Go to My Dashboard.
- Expand the heading Higher Education.
- Select Get Access next to the AP Higher Ed Score Reports option.
- Search for your professional organization (use ZIP code if helpful).
- Enter your access code.
- Click Add.
Tips
- Use the exact institution name shown in your access code email.
- Access codes only work for the specific institution listed, even if others have similar names.
Step 3: Activate Portal and Web Service Access
- Navigate to the portal at AP Higher Education Score Reports. If you’ve just added your access code, you must log out and log back in again for the change to take effect and for you to be able to access the portal.
- Accept the Site Terms of Use.
- Navigate to the User Dashboard. This will activate the daily email notifications about new score reports to the email address on your account. This action will also authorize your account to be able to use the web service to automate file downloads.
Step 4: Additional Setup Steps for the Web Service (as needed)
- Confirm that your professional account password is current. Passwords must be updated periodically for all professional accounts. If your password has expired, calls to the web service will fail. To avoid disruptions, make sure to update your code accordingly whenever the password is changed. Also make sure your account password is encoded as a Base64 string when passed in your API calls.
To ensure your professional account password does not expire, log in regularly to AP Higher Education Score Reports using the account used to download files. It's recommended that you implement error handling in your code to alert you when login or authentication errors occur during web service calls.
- Make sure that MFA is disabled. MFA isn’t an available option for professional accounts used to call the automated web service. Calls to the web service will fail if this is enabled.
To disable MFA for your account:- Log in to your College Board Professional account.
- Navigate to Account Settings.
- On your professional dashboard, click your name.
- Select View/Edit My Profile.
- Scroll down to the Multifactor Authentication (MFA) section.
- If MFA is set to Active, click Edit.
- Select the Inactive option.
- Click Submit Changes.
Internet Delivery of Encrypted Files Discontinued
Support for the encrypted file service ended April 27. Current users with new score reports received the link to their last encrypted file on April 27 and have until May 15 to download it and any other prior encrypted files. Institutions must move to the new portal and web service now to continue to receive AP score reports.
If you haven’t been contacted by College Board, please reach out to us immediately at [email protected]. We must confirm your institution’s contact information to provide access instructions.

Please refer to the frequently asked questions on the Professional Account Help page.
Which courses’ names changed in 2019-20, and how does this impact how my institution may grant credit or placement for those courses?
Starting with the 2020 AP Exam administration, the following courses were renamed:
- AP Drawing was previously known as AP Studio Art: Drawing.
- AP 2-D Art and Design was previously known as AP Studio Art: 2-D Design.
- AP 3-D Art and Design was previously known as AP Studio Art: 3-D Design.
- AP World History: Modern was previously known as AP World History.
The exam codes for these subjects did not change.
Starting in the 2019-20 school year, AP World History changed both course coverage and exam name, while keeping the same exam code (93) in electronic score reports. AP World History: Modern (associated with a 2020 or later exam) covers content beginning in 1200 CE, while AP World History (associated with a 2019 or earlier exam) covers content beginning with the Paleolithic Era.
When processing AP scores for these exams please make sure to account for the administration year when the exam was taken to appropriately assign credit and determine placement for students, as they will both appear with the same exam code (93) and the same exam name on score reports.
