2025-26 AP Accommodations Guide

The 2025-26 AP Accommodations Guide will be released in December. Step-by-step instructions for managing accommodations are available at SSD Online for Coordinators.

Braille with Raised Line Drawings, Contracted

Students may:

  • test with the digital AP Exam using a refreshable braille display or screen reader; or
  • test using the braille paper exam.

Note: Braille exams will be available for students with an approved accommodation who are unable to test using a computer.

Details for Hybrid Digital AP Exams

  • If a student is approved for braille and paper, the entire exam would need to be administered as braille; there’s not an option to administer braille only for Section II of the exam.
  • A student approved for braille could test using a screen reader or refreshable braille display for Section I and test with a human reader for Section II.
  • If a student is approved for dictation, they can test with a human writer/scribe for Section II.
  • If a student has a human reader and/or human writer/scribe assist them during Section II, they need to test in a one-to-one setting for the entire exam.

Raised Line Drawings (formerly “braille graphs and figures”)

Students may:

  • test with the digital AP Exam using a screen reader with or without a refreshable braille display; or
  • test using the braille paper exam, either with or without a human reader.

Important Notes:

  • Raised line drawing supplements are not available with digital AP Exams.
  • If a student needs to take a digital AP Exam using a screen reader, their SSD coordinator should submit the request for this accommodation in SSD Online by January 16, 2026. If the request must be made after January 16 due to a change in a student’s accommodations status, contact the College Board SSD office as soon as possible.

Braille Writer

For a digital AP Exam, braille writing software should be used. If a student uses a manual braille writer and/or does not have access to braille writing software, they can:

  • test with a digital AP Exam using voice recognition (speech-to-text) software;
  • test with a digital AP Exam and dictate their responses to a writer/scribe; or
  • test using a braille paper exam with the manual braille writer.

Details for Hybrid Digital AP Exams

  • Because students will use both the Bluebook testing app and a paper exam booklet (for Section II), there are additional unique considerations regarding a braille writer accommodation.
  • Contact the College Board SSD office for guidance about the testing options available.
