Identify and recruit teachers.
If your school offers foundational African American history or ethnic studies courses, teachers of these courses are a good fit for AP African American Studies. However, because of the broad, multidisciplinary nature of the course, teachers in other disciplines, such as the arts, humanities, or social sciences, can also teach AP African American Studies. Check with your local state and district regarding requirements to teach AP African American Studies.
-
Recruit students.
AP African American Studies is designed to engage all students, including those from traditionally underrepresented groups and those who haven’t taken an AP course before. These students may need extra encouragement to participate in this course.
