Each Achieving Equity in AP workshop is customized for teachers and administrators in a single district or school to explore how to create an AP program devoted to improving access to and equity in advanced academics for students from all populations.

During the workshop, you’ll:

  • Identify policies, procedures, and tools that can be used to increase diversity in the AP student and teacher population.
  • Discuss curriculum adjustments and instructional strategies that will help to recruit and retain students who have traditionally not had access to AP classes.
  • Identify district-, school-, and classroom-level policies and practices that enhance or restrict student opportunities to take AP classes and exams.

Quick Facts:

  • Audience: Up to 25 district/building administrators and AP teachers. Administrators and teachers will attend sessions together to collaborate on the shared equity policy.
  • Format: Available in-person or online. Can be 1 day or across 2 consecutive days.
  • Facilitator: Endorsed College Board AP workshop consultant.
  • When: Available at any time throughout the year.

Workshop Description:

  • Topic 1: Reflect. Examine explicit and implicit bias and its impact in your district. Read and discuss an anchor text to reflect on your current AP program and discuss how you can increase equity and access throughout your school by leveraging AP Potential and other data relevant to your school.
  • Topic 2: Examine. As a continuation of your discussion from Part 1, participate in conversations focused on increasing access to AP courses and creating a culture of acceptance and encouragement.
  • Topic 3: Adjust. Discuss how to implement AP preparedness skills, such as study habits and focusing on growth mindset, at your school and identify sources of support both within and outside the classroom.
  • Topic 4: Leveraging AP Data. Learn how you can leverage AP Classroom to help all students succeed in your AP course.
  • Topic 5: District AP Program Goal Setting. Work with your colleagues to establish goals and actions to implement an equity-based AP program at your school.
