Join the English 10: AP Seminar Collaborative, a national professional learning community for English educators teaching AP Seminar as their 10th-grade English course.

This yearlong series provides practical strategies to:

  • Integrate literary texts and narrative writing into the AP Seminar framework
  • Support students through the performance tasks
  • Engage students in critical analysis of the stimulus materials
  • Prepare students for the end-of-course exam 

What to expect:

  • Connect with fellow educators across the country
  • Exchange classroom-ready resources
  • Participate in live Q&A sessions with AP content experts
  • Access targeted breakout sessions for both new and experienced teachers

Session 1: Four Recommendations for a Strong Start to the Year 

Participants will: 

  • Dive into models for integrating English 10 and AP Seminar requirements.
  • Explore key considerations for building thematic units for the English 10: AP Seminar course, including team-building activities and discussion techniques.
  • Discover strategies for teaching literary texts and narrative writing.
  • Learn how to leverage AP Classroom resources to support your students and create effective lessons plans.

Session 2: When Students Practice Performance Tasks, Their Skills Improve

  • Explore model lessons designed to develop the essential skills of AP Seminar, including the QUEST framework.
  • Identify key areas of focus for student development, including group dynamics and effective presentation skills.
  • Discover structures to provide targeted peer and teacher-level feedback for students.
  • Engage in a Q&A to support the development of your AP Seminar syllabus.

Session 3: Pro Tips for Managing Class Time During Performance Tasks  

Participants will: 

  • Develop a curriculum map for Performance Tasks 1 and 2 while considering the needs of your existing English 10 curricula.
  • Explore and navigate the AP Digital Portfolio and online resources for students.
  • Discuss the Performance Task checkpoints and identify opportunities to grade and provide feedback to students.
  • Engage in a Q&A with members of the English 10: AP Seminar teaching and learning team.

  • Explore and brainstorm meaningful post-exam learning experiences.
  • Engage in a Q&A with members of the English 10: AP Seminar teaching and learning team.

  • Preview the skills required for future AP English courses and plan for integration in the final unit.
