New! In 2021, students will submit their portfolios entirely online through the AP Art and Design digital submission web application. There will be no physical portfolios this year. Learn more about AP Art and Design digital submission.
AP coordinators can order AP Art and Design Portfolio Exams through AP Registration and Ordering along with all other AP Exams. Students must enroll in their AP Art and Design class section in My AP in order to be included in the AP Exam order. You should submit your exam order by November 13, 2020, 11:59 p.m. ET (or by March 12, 2021, 11:59 p.m. ET, for courses that begin after November 13).
Students will continue to use the separate AP Art and Design digital submission web application to submit the digital portions of their portfolios. The number of student portfolios that can be set up in the digital submission web application will be determined by the number of AP Art and Design Portfolio Exam orders you’ve submitted by November 13. If an AP Art and Design class begins after November 13, students and teachers will be able to access the AP Art and Design digital submission web application after the exam order is submitted.
If your school has combined AP Art and Design classes, you need to create class sections in AP Registration and Ordering for each portfolio type offered at your school to order the portfolios. For example, if Period 1 AP Art and Design has students studying AP 2-D Art and Design and students studying AP Drawing, you need to create two class sections: Period 1 AP 2-D Art and Design and Period 1 AP Drawing.
A student can submit more than one AP Art and Design Portfolio Exam; however, there must be no duplication of works or images among the portfolios, and portfolios can’t be combined. If, for example, a student wants to submit a portfolio for both AP Drawing and AP 2-D Art and Design, the following should happen: the student must join a class section for each AP course; the AP coordinator submits an exam order for each AP course; and two separate exam fees must be paid by the student.
If a student decides after you submit your exam order that they would like to submit a different type of AP Art and Design Portfolio Exam, you can switch their portfolio order without incurring a fee. There are specific steps in AP Registration and Ordering to make this switch. See How do I switch a student’s AP Art and Design order from one portfolio type to another?
