Online Resources Recommended by AP Teachers

We surveyed AP Statistics teachers about what online resources they recommend, and the list below comes directly from their responses. The list also includes teacher descriptions of the resources. This is not a comprehensive list, nor is it an endorsement of any of these resources by the College Board.

Against All Odds: Inside Statistics

  • Instructional videos for students; online instruction tutorials/resource pages for teachers
  • “Short, engaging videos that utilize real-world contexts to introduce major concepts in the course and demonstrate meaningful applications.” The videos include printable teacher and student materials.

Albert.io: AP Statistics $  

  • Self-directed student practice
  • Provides a variety of “teacher-written multiple-choice questions for all topics within the nine units in the AP Statistics Course and Exam Description.” To view the answers, make assignments, or track progress, a paid account is required.

ASA: STatistics Education Web (STEW)

  • Online instruction tutorials/resource pages for teachers
  • This online resource supported by the American Statistical Association (ASA) provides peer-reviewed lesson plans for teaching statistical concepts. The editable and printable lesson plans are categorized by the type and number of variables and the statistical concept(s) incorporated.

Desmos  

  • Self-directed student practice; online graphing calculator
  • Includes an online graphing calculator and an “Activity Builder,” which features a range of prebuilt, auto-scored activity sets” that students can work through independently or with peers in a collaborative learning setting.” Teachers can build their own activities using varied question types (multiple-choice, card sort/matching, graphing, etc.).

Fathom Dynamic Data Software $  

  • Statistical software package
  • This dynamic software is a powerful tool that can create data visualizations, run simulations, and perform statistical tests “to make teaching data analysis and statistics fun and effective.”

JMP Introductory Lab Activities for AP Statistics

  • Online simulation/laboratory experiment; online instruction tutorials/resource pages for teachers
  • For teachers that use or are interested in using JMP software to teach AP Statistics concepts, these printable introductory lab activities allow students to use the JMP software to investigate, explore, and simulate data and are categorized by course themes and topics.

Khan Academy — AP Statistics

  • Self-directed student practice; instructional videos for students
  • Provides practice exercises and instructional videos to promote self-paced learning and practice.

Rossman/Chance Applet Collection

  • Online simulation/laboratory experiment
  • This set of interactive simulation applets allows students to explore key concepts in the course and visualize complex ideas and theorems. These applets can be used to introduce concepts in a “whole-class setting or as a part of an engagement/exploration activity in a collaborative learning setting.”

Stats Medic $  

  • Online instruction tutorials/resource pages for teachers
  • 150 days of AP Statistics lesson plans that include minute-by-minute lesson breakdown, learning targets, printable activity materials, answer keys, teaching notes and tips, and interesting data sets. Most material is free except for the “Review Course,” which offers video lessons and student-facing materials allowing for student self-paced practice and review.

  • This website has curated a varied collection of resources from other educators, including FRAPPYs, PowerPoint presentations, projects, activities, and links to other resources indexed by content area within the course.

TI Education: TI-84 Activity Center - Statistics

  • Online simulation/laboratory experiment; online instructions tutorials/resources pages for teachers
  • For teachers that use TI-84 calculators in class, this library of calculator activities features editable and printable student and teacher handouts, data files, and standards alignment information to engage students in utilizing the calculator as a tool to explore and investigate course concepts.

TI Education: Math Nspired — Statistics

  • For teachers that use TI-Nspire calculators in class, this library of calculator activities features editable and printable student and teacher handouts, data files, and standards alignment information to engage students in utilizing the calculator as a tool to explore and investigate course concepts.

U.S. Census Bureau: Statistics in Schools

  • Online instruction tutorials/resource pages for teachers
  • Offers teacher-created lesson plans on a variety of statistics topics, such as displaying data, normality, correlation, central tendency, and linear regression, as they apply to data collected every decade by the census.
